Creamy Mushroom Bowties

When planning meals for this week I went through the pantry to see what we already had that needed to be used. I found a jar of garlic parmesan cream sauce and had an idea. I wanted to add some mushrooms and spice to the sauce and smother some bowtie pasta with my creation. This recipe tasted amazing and yielded about six servings after less than 30 minutes of work. Creamy mushroom bowties is a cheap and easy weeknight meal that I highly recommend you try.

Ingredients

16 oz sliced mushrooms

1 jar garlic parmesan sauce (we used Ragu, but Prego also has one)

16 oz bowtie noodles (farfalle pasta)

1 tsp red chili flakes (optional, but highly recommended)

olive oil

salt

Instructions

  1. Get the water on the stove for the pasta, don’t forget the salt. While you’re waiting for that to boil, place the mushrooms in a skillet or sauce pan over high heat. Cook the mushrooms until all of the water that leeched out is gone. Add just enough oil to coat the mushrooms and then continue cooking until browned.

  2. Once your water is boiling, add the pasta and cook to al dente according to the package instructions.

  3. Add the garlic parmesan sauce to the mushrooms and stir to combine, ensuring the mushrooms are coated in sauce. Heat on low. Add the chili flakes, if desired, and stir through. The sauce is done once warmed through. Don’t forget to taste and add salt and pepper as needed.

  4. When the pasta is cooked, drain and then add it to the sauce. Mix well to coat the pasta and serve.

Notes

  • We served this with garlic bread, but this dish would also be great with a roasted vegetable side if you are looking for a healthier option.

  • The chili flakes are optional, but if you choose not to use them just know this dish will be extremely savory and quite heavy. The bit of heat helps lift the dish a bit without making it too spicy. You feel a slight heat in the back of your throat with the 1 tsp addition so feel free to add as much or as little as you like.

  • Serve with some extra cheese on top or fresh greens like parsley would be tasty as well.

Let me know if you get creative with this recipe and how it turns out. This recipe is a pretty blank canvas so spices and additions can be interchanged to completely change the taste. Tell me about your version below!

Until Next Time,

Happy Cooking
