Bohemian Bull
Bohemian Bull advertises itself as a tavern and beer garden with the best burgers, beer and cocktails in town. They have multiple locations in the Southern U.S. including two locations in Texas. The newest location to open is in Spring with the only other Texas location being Grapevine (that’s a bit of a drive for date night). The Spring location is easy to get to and has plenty of parking. We were seated immediately and given time to peruse the cocktail and beer menus, but I used that time to scope out the interior. The décor gives bohemian sports bar which was right up my alley. Everything was clean and the service was stellar. They do offer deals for certain days and times; happy hour is Monday-Friday from 4p-7p with $8 appetizers, $4 pints of their beer of the month and $1 off house liquors/wines/beer - Wednesdays are also half price burger days for dine-in customers only. Takeout is available as well if that’s more your vibe.
Before getting into what we ordered, I want to say that the menu we received in the restaurant was slightly different than what was listed on their website. I had already picked out my entree of choice before we ever arrived, but that item wasn’t on the menu in the restaurant. Just keep that in mind if you check out the menu on their website. With that being said, let’s get into what we ordered and what we thought. For appetizers we ordered the whipped feta and the fried mac and cheese bites. Both of those were absolutely amazing. The whipped feta is drizzled with honey and pecans and comes with bread for a utensil. The mac and cheese bites come with a spicy ranch dip and had a delightfully crispy breading. We would order both of those items again. Entrees is where things went a little South for us. My husband ordered the hippie black bean burger and I could tell by his face after one bite that he wasn’t happy. He tried to tell me what was wrong with it, but finally just had me try it to see for myself. The texture was awful. There were no crispy edges that you would expect from a black bean burger. I got the impression that they had literally just mashed up some black beans, shaped it into a patty, threw it on the grill for a few seconds and then served it. There was nothing to bind it together so it started falling apart while he was eating it. He did, however, devour the fried okra that he ordered as his side. He said the okra was perfect and he would 100% order that again….with a different entree.
I ordered the fish and chips with the parmesan truffle fries. When your waiter asks if you want to upgrade your fries (for free) to the parmesan truffle fries, say yes. Those fries were absolutely heavenly. The fried fish had a good flavor, but the breading was soggy and there was a lot of air trapped between the breading and the fish. I wasn’t unhappy, but I wasn’t over the moon either. The manager came over as we were paying our bill and asked my husband if he liked his meal. He was honest with her and gave her some tips for making it better. She seemed eager for the feedback and said she would talk to the chef. She also removed the burger from our bill which was not necessary or expected, but appreciated. Since the restaurant has only been open a month this could all just be a cook still learning the ropes. We want to go back in a few months to try again and see if the food has changed. That being said, we would definitely go back and just binge on appetizers.
